Laboratory Introduction

The Independent Cardiovascular Disease Research Laboratory (CV Lab) is affiliated with the Chinese Institutes for Medical Research (CIMR), Beijing, China.

Wayne W. Zhang, MD, FACS, DFSVS, serves as a Distinguished Investigator at CIMR and is the Chair Professor and Chairman of the Department of Vascular Surgery, Capital Medical University.

CV Lab is equipped with state-of-the-art biomanufacturing and molecular biology platforms, including high-precision bioprinters, microfluidic chip fabrication systems, automated Western blot systems, comprehensive cell and molecular biology experimental facilities, and advanced small-animal research platforms.

Major Research Focus
CV Lab is dedicated to independent, hypothesis-driven basic and translational research in cardiovascular diseases, with a focus on:
   •   Fundamental studies on the etiology, pathogenesis, and pathophysiological mechanisms of cardiovascular diseases
   •   Bioprinting, organoid, and organ-on-a-chip technologies for disease modeling, diagnosis, and therapeutic evaluation
   •   Discovery and preclinical development of novel cardiovascular therapeutics
   •   Translational research on 3D bioprinted cardiovascular organoids-on-a-chip for precision medicine applications
   •   Innovation and translation of minimally invasive cardiovascular devices
Through the integration of advanced bioengineering technologies and rigorous biological investigation, CV Lab aims to accelerate the translation of cutting-edge discoveries into clinically impactful solutions for cardiovascular disease management.
